August: Nufer Reunion, Blake and London Wedding, Alpine Days, and Time for School!

August began with a Nufer Family Reunion in Kamas, Utah.  We rented a large house and mingled for a few days.  Highlights included the Olympics, the daily devotionals, the time cooking massive quantities of food, when several kids decided to lift weights with me, the obstacle course at the pool, a hike in Brady's neck of the woods, and so many games.

This was my favorite moment of the reunion: kids started to join me lifting weights and Maycee, too!

Brady and I hosted the Family Olympics.  Don't drop the egg!

...or spill water all over you while pulling off silly socks!
Thank you, Karen Christine, for all the fun activity ideas.  This was the biggest hit: soccer with a giant pool ball and floaties.

Rock, paper, scissors tag.

The activities downstairs were non-stop entertainment, and helped split up the huge group.  Skee ball was the biggest draw, and I almost decided to get one until: 1. I saw the price tag, and 2. I saw the dents in the walls from misses.
Girls playing cards and Kev playing guitar.

Two kitchens?  Yes please.

2 or 3 hour Dungeons and Dragons, including the elf ears!

Pool time at Kamas.  The kids and Brady and I dove off what had to be 100 times, and did as many races on the obstacle course.

We did a family Kahoot, with prizes going to my team.  It helped that I had one older kid from every family because if I had anything to do with it, we would be dead last.  Ian looks like he's wearing a lamp shade in this pic of kids hoarding Nerds.  Also, this is exactly what I remember for New Year's Eve.  Mom and Dad would open a big bag of peanut M&Ms and it was a race to consume.
Hiking in the Uintas: home of Brady's bear story and so many backpacking and scouting adventures.

Brady retold his infamous Order of the Arrow bear story from this exact area of the Uintas.

Treats for the hikers:

This girl makes a nap look better than ice cream.
Aurora: "Aunt Karen, take a picture of us in the sunset!"

At the reunion, Scott added some recommendations to care for Kate's sore hip. She had already seen a PT, but we took his advice and tried.  She was so excited for the XC preseason race: Alpine Days.  Her hip hurt her terribly but she ran a 21:30.  She was in so much pain that she knew she was out for at least a little while to recover.

Owen ran with Brady, and as they got closer to the finish line, he took off with Rachel and sprinted to the finish.  He ran a 23 or 24 and it's been too long for me to be precise!
Walker looked strong from season beginning to season end.
KATE!  Way to go with your strong finish, babe!  Who would have guessed this was our only XC race this year?

Kate marched in the parade with student council right afterwards.

My badge this year.
Owen, pink faced after his first RaceCats practice.
Soccer tourney time!

I love it when a friend or 2 comes with us to dinner.
Ryan and Karen shared a night out with the siblings prior to Blake and London's wedding.

Garden Party!
"Here's to the Married Man, Cheers to the Married Man!"  Carrying on the tradition.
In what felt like CW/Bachelor/name your show, groups of people started to jump in the pool.  Everyone was dressed to the nines but Blake, London, and their immediate family.  My kids did not hesitate and jumped in as well.  I pay for my clothes so I was more hesitant, but couldn't resist when Stacey told me sh really wanted to and needed a peer.  It was a party to the fullest and my dress wasn't ruined, so no harm done.  Ha!
Wedding Day!  We were all so happy to celebrate at the Mt. Timpanogas Temple with them.

So kind of Blake to include Zac as a groomsman!

The dance party was such a party.  I am surprised with how easy it is to let loose in these settings and we all left wishing it was an hour longer!

Zachary and Owen!  Heart hands.

These two looked and vibed love.

Me, Stacey, and the MOG (mother of groom).  So happy for you, Kristen!

These two sweaty, hot cousins lit up the dance floor.  I had no idea Easton could move like that, and thinking about it still makes me laugh in delight.

Another Saturday, another soccer day.
The Harry Potter saga begins!

A Sunday walk with Creers and Edwards to see the house progress.
These three: sometimes I forget Eliza isn't actually a cousin.  They are all so close.
Senior Year: DAY 1!  Zac's comments about school starting: "School is school.  I've had senioritis since sophomore year."
Kate's comments about entering 9th grade: "I'm bummed I'm not at Lone Peak yet but it is so much easier to go back to a school I went to last year."
My comments about Year 2 at Vista Heights Middle: I am a more effective intervention teacher now and feel much more comfortable in my role there.
Owen's comments about entering 4th grade at Westfield: "It's unfair that I have to go to a new school when everyone else is going to a school they know.  I miss my friends.  I'll get new friends, though."

Saturday ride.  One of the best parts of Utah is doing things we love together.  We rarely surfed together, but we regularly bike.

Our one Utah camping trip of the summer!  We slept on an air mattress in the flatbed of Brady's truck, and the kids slept in the tent.

Morning jog:

Jeeping:

Belongs in a dog movie:

Fancy breakfast:

I thought I might be annoying everyone busting out this game and begging them all to play but I think they loved it, too.
We wanted to forget about the game and camp on more night but our Cougar loyalty won!  So did the Cougs.

Another August weekend: we went to Paul and Angela's to stay the night and go fishing the next morning.  Three hours, three bites, and no fish later, we headed home a bit dejected.

I've never liked fishing but I have to say that reading in a chair by the lake is lovely.

Happy End of Summer!
