The Transition from A Few Malihinis to Mauka Life

Last photo at Chiefess!
Another coastal hike where we got a bit windblown but Roxy lived her best life on the golf course.

The first weekend in June could only mean one thing: Ha'ena to Hanalei Race!  Kate signed up for the 5K and Owen insisted on the 8 miler.  He had the Riggs brothers doing the 8 miler and with all this Run Club miles stacked plus several 4 mile training runs together, he felt prepared.

I did not get to see Kate but Brady cheered her on as she ran with Sicily.

Chilly gusts greeted us at the start line.  Owen was so excited to race with his besties.

Owen ran hard and strong for the first 4 miles, kept plugging away at mile 5, picked it up again for a bit, and felt like it was the hardest challenge of his life at about mile 7.  I was so proud of him for pushing through the hard parts!  He had so much encouragement from the volunteers and supporters.

Owen finished 4th place for age 14 and under!  Woot-woot!  His time was 1 hour, 16 min.  Kate was a 2nd place 14 and under and had an 8 min/mile time. The way home, Owen zonked out.  Kate wished for more training time but was proud of her effort, too.  I love that they want to run!

Meanwhile, Zachary went on a fishing trip with the other YM in the ward.  Several hours and many pukes into the trip (not Zac, thankfully!), Zac reeled in this 150 pound ahi!
Brian not only treated these boys to the excursion, he also paid for the fish to be sliced and divided up.  We had killer ahi tacos.

We found some beauties for our next house...

We couldn't leave Kauai without another round of quick family photos.  Heidi and Nic wanted some prior to Ty leaving on his mission, too.  They selected the Waimea pier, a stomping ground for many people living in cars.  When I stepped out into the gusts, my dress flew up and I got a lot of attention.  Whoops.

My kid that loves to look out the window in the car, and at the ocean on the pier.

Our last Sunday with the dreaded "Aloha Oe" farewell song.  It was so hard.  It is supposed to be hard to leave a place and people you love.  I am so grateful.

Last Sunday in primary:

Last Stebbedlarks dinner.  Brady put together a 12 minute video commemorating our years of friendship.

A last beach gathering and surf.  Peter and Candace were there as well, and came to BBQ with us.  First Break was lovely and I paddled out with my dear friends.

Saying goodbye to Sicily.  These girls still FaceTime multiple times a week.

The chaos of getting last items moved out and the many, many hours of cleaning and painting.  I struggled with my middle, right finger, which I found out weeks later was "severely broken."  My leash wrapped around it and yanked on a big wave bail.  It hurt so much during the move.

Owen helped the movers every step of the way, even sleeping on the lanai while they all napped there, too.  Ha!!!
Looking at the pictures in this post, a full 3 months after we moved, I feel like I'm reading "Goodbye, Mouse."

Goodbye, house.

Last dinners: Stebbedlarks wore black and we ate out out favorite Kalaheo Cafe diner.

Goodbye, friends.

Last run.  Goodbye, golf course.  Goodbye, chickens.
Goodbye, palm-lined street.

Goodbye, banyan tree.

I believed I could never be happier with any place I lived than when we lived here when Zac was three.

Goodbye, Hyatt green belt.

Goodbye, PTA and Sarina.

Goodbye, Ivy.

Goodbye, sunburns?

Goodbye, Lowick and Seeley:

Goodbye, Kels:

Goodbye.

Roxy handled the airplane like a champ!

Meeting Sunny was splendid, while she and Indy had a rocky start.
Brady picked us up the next day with Cory, and snagged a photo of our many checked bags.

Buying mattresses, renting car to move mattresses, and returning our shoulder-breaking-firm mattress two weeks later.
Our new condo poolhouse.
Our new walking/running/biking paths.  No palms line them but they extend further than I ever need.
Hello, Family.
Hello, Mountains.

Hello, Utah.
