Petting Zoo

Owen and Roxy have a special relationship.  He loves her 100% of the time and she returns that love about 50% of the time.
Sonia fostered 5-day-old kittens and we went to see them during Kate's soccer practice.  These are little kid slippers.  Playing with them reminded me of when we fostered Toby and Kobi, our little rescue kitties, at least 18 years ago.

Just like our kittens, these guys have to be manually pooped, and that poop is smellier than you would ever expect from such a tiny creature.
The next day, we went to ballet and rather than heading straight to the studio, we watched Hilary's goat give birth.
Derek has missed every live birth, so Hilary Facetimed him in.

The next couple days, Kate and I researched the gestation and birth process for goats as our science.
Newborns!

Lucky ballerinas!

They went straight in and danced, Hilary teaching after washing her hands from helping pull the baby (the mama goat was very weak).  She is so rad.  Kate was woozy after witnessing the birth and thought she might be sick.  I knew she wasn't ill but instead shocked by watching the process.  She recovered after a snack and some reassurance.

Owen can't leave the farm without feeding the other goats and petting the horses.

Kate finally had a chance to play with kitties a few days later.

5-years-ago me would be less enamored by animals, and I'm glad that is not the case anymore and seeing a goat give birth would go down as one of the top experiences of my life.
