Zachary Turns 12

My laptop has this picture of Zac that I see a dozen times a day.  I love it because it feels recent and also grounds me--he is not the little guy chasing dogs but he is still the same energetic, loving, passionate kid he has been since the day he was born.

He was ordained the Sunday before his birthday.
The last day of winter break, we gathered up his besties and took them for Brick Oven buffet: Finn, David, Kaimana, Jojo, and Caleb.  The boys joked and laughed while still polite and kind, and I was so grateful he has a crew like this in his life.
It was originally going to be a boys night, but I couldn't sit it out and Owen and Kate came along, too.  I was happy Zachary was so open to having Kate there.  They fight like all siblings and I wondered how he would react to her joining the fun.  He was gracious and seemed happy to have us all there.
Mana:  "Take a picture and send it to my parents so they see I ate salad."

Our original plan to do glow-in-the-dark games at the park was rained out, but we made it work playing dodgeball, basketball, and laser tag at the cultural hall of the church.

The next morning, it was back to school but not before his favorite breakfast: waffles and orange syrup.

Dinner was pork sliders and watermelon.  Another thing that never changes is the love Zac has for all things bread....
...and his perfect enthusiasm for gifts.

Mint brownies for his cake this year, as requested.
Happy, happy birthday, Zachary!  You are all these things.  I will never get tired of watching you chase dogs, waves, and your goals.  I'm so happy you love Harry Potter and legos and I hope that does not end anytime soon.  I'm so happy you like paddling out to surf with me and participating on teams and playing board games on Sunday nights.  I am so glad you want to play the piano and pray.  I'm so glad you ask questions and consider options before committing.  I love you!
