We are off! Our much-anticipated family vacation is finally here!
Our first use of the Swiss Travel Pass. The kids had never been on a train.
We made sure the kids knew the key to time change was NOT to sleep that first day. Push through until the night and sleep it off then. Zac was not having it and instead slept in the AirB&B all day and all night while we explored Zurich.
Love the little man no-walk symbol.
Parts of Lake Zurich remind me of Venice.
First Swiss flag sitings! There is so much national pride here.
Our lunch stop ended up being the most traditional Swiss food of our trip. We ate in a restaurant that was once a medieval armory built in the 15th century.
The kids were thrilled with their fancy Coke Zeros and Brady could not wait to try some "schnitzel."I will go ahead and leave this captionless.
Tastes as bad as it looks.
Lindenhof hill for views of Old Town:"Feed the birds, tuppence a bag..."
No one believed me or ChatGPT that the fountain water was safe to drink, even after I took my first gulps. They waited until several others drank. Switzerland has some of the cleanest drinking water in the world and fountains are like drinking from water bottles.St. Peter's Church: famous for having Europe's largest clock face. The churches were all made simpler by the Zwingl's Reformation.
We were all dragging hard by 4pm.
Fraumünster Church. I couldn't talk our family into touring it.
I love signs:
First Gelato of the trip! It was either this, plane food, or lunch food that gave all 4 of us hives an hour later.Grossmünster: Zurich's iconic twin-tower church, covered in construction! We climbed the tower and explored the church central to the Swiss Reformation.
There were bibles from 1540, including the illustrated Bible first translated into German.
We were excited to take Zachary here with his massive interest in World Cup, but he was still sound asleep. We lost Kate for bits of this museum as well. She said she loved the two 8-min videos we watched because they were the best nap of her life.
The original trophy: tiny!
HIVES!It was so incredibly hot, and the kids wanted to join the locals in Limmat River dip. They went in, clothes and all. It completely revived them.
See those hives? We initially thought it was sunburn. They came on hard and fast, and we all got tingling and then bright red spots.
We were all so happy to sleep. Kate was the major family compromiser and slept with Zac draped across both beds. First day Europe is a beast!
